Today is National Beer Day in the UK, it is a day to celebrate the nation’s favourite alcoholic beverage.
Beer residue has been found on pottery in China dating back to 5,400 years ago, though beer has been around for some 7,000 years (originating from what is now known as Iran) by historians.

During the Middle Ages beer was brewed by abbeys and independent alehouses, later on during the 16th century the dissolution of the monasteries resulted in British brewing lost its connection with religious houses in Europe. So family-run companies became national brands during the 19th century, especially around Burton-on-Trent who’s water supply was said to be particularly good for brewing.
Overall in the UK, British people consume on average about 14,841 pints of beer per minute, spending over £15 billion a year on either going out to a pub or drinking at home.
